Job summary

VGC Group is seeking an experienced Engineering Surveyor to operate on a live MOD site in Plymouth. The role requires strong survey control, as-built capture, and integration with construction activities to maintain precision and schedule alignment.

The position is site-based, with potential shift patterns. Candidates should have Civil/Surveying qualifications, several years on civil projects, and proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS, and Leica scanning tools to deliver accurate data and

Qualifications

• Degree, diploma, or relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Construction.
• Site based role.
• Potential for shift work, operating on a 7/3/7/4 shift pattern as per programme needs.
• Experience in surveying and construction industries.
• 3-5 years of experience in a similar surveying position on a civil engineering project.
• Experience with surveying equipment; total stations, GPS/GNSS and laser scanners.
• Survey data processing software; AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Infinity, Leica Cyclone and Leica 3DR.
• Understanding of QC1 procedures and quality documentation in a civils context.
• CSCS Card and relevant site safety qualifications.
• Member of the CinstCES (or technical member working towards full member), or another body.

Responsibilities

• Check and maintain survey control networks.
• Assurance surveys for construction of RC structures; through pre-pour, post-pour checks.
• As-built surveys, through laser scanning and modelling of point clouds.
• Ensure survey data is collected and recorded accurately, following project QA/QC standards. Operating survey equipment to the highest of precision within a civils environment.
• Support engineers with setting out activities to ensure consistent approaches to surveying and engineering.
• Support the preparation of survey reports, drawings, and data outputs for engineering and construction teams.
• Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure alignment between construction programme and survey operations.
• Support machine control application for excavation, demolition and drilling operations. Check design and create models for machine control.
• Provide check reports and as-builts, through laser scanning and modelling of point clouds.
• Assist with the implementation of quality control procedures, particularly in accordance with QC1 requirements; maintaining the highest standards of traceability, tolerances, reporting.
• Manage and archive survey files and records to support project compliance and audits, using the Projects Document Management system.
• Attend daily briefings and provide updates on survey progress and issues.
• Ensure all surveying works are carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Support other surveying work packages as required.
