Job summary

Serco is seeking an Engineering Supervisor (Avionics) for the Merlin program at AESAS - RNAS Culdrose. The role focuses on safe, compliant maintenance of Merlin HM Mk 2 aircraft, guiding a team including apprentices and Fitters, and ensuring airworthiness within a regulated environment.

You will oversee daily workloads, authorise second-signature for trades, and support operational performance while driving training, qualifications, and adherence to procedures.

Qualifications

  • Service Certificate of Competency or completion of the Serco Supervisory Management and Aircraft Documentation Course and CofC Board.
  • Supervisory experience and strong working knowledge of Merlin aircraft systems, servicing and support equipment.
  • Understanding of Airworthiness Engineering, Military Aviation Authority (MAA) requirements, and rotary wing aviation procedures.
  • Experience with Naval Air Publications, C-IETP, project planning and Lean processes.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet operational outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance on Merlin aircraft and components in line with published procedures.
  • Coordinate and supervise Fitters, Fitters' Mates and Apprentices, allocating daily workloads as directed by the OST Team Lead.
  • Provide second-signature authorisation for your trade group when required.
  • Conduct independent inspections where authorised iaw MAM(P).
  • Support the OST Team Lead with operational performance, ensuring efficient, compliant delivery.
  • Ensure team members' training, currency and qualification needs are communicated to the OST Team Lead.
  • Work routine days or shift patterns aligned to operational requirements.
  • Comply with Serco's Quality Manual, site regulations, and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improved capability for our customers.

As a Supervisor in our AESAS team, you'll help ensure safe, effective and compliant maintenance of the Merlin HM Mk 2 aircraft - supporting essential operations that directly contribute to the Royal Navy's capability and our positive impact on communities.

You'll play a key role in maintaining operational airworthiness, guiding colleagues and apprentices, and supporting a highly regulated engineering environment. Your work will help create impactful solutions, build trust with our partners, and help shape a safe and efficient future for aircraft engineering at RNAS Culdrose.

What you'll do as a Supervisor (Avionics)

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

Vetting and checks:

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, you will be required to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
