Jenrick Group in Bradford is seeking an experienced Engineering Shift Manager to lead an engineering team within a food manufacturing environment. The role focuses on minimising downtime, improving equipment performance and delivering a safe, efficient operation on a permanent night shift.

You will manage faults, coordinate maintenance, and support the asset care programme while ensuring HACCP compliance and a hands-on approach to repairs and optimisations.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering is required
• ONC Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical & Electrical/Electronic Engineering would be advantageous
• Proven experience in engineering fault-finding within an FMCG environment, ideally food manufacturing

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the engineering team to ensure smooth and efficient running of the manufacturing site
• Minimise machinery downtime via proactive and predictive maintenance and fast fault resolution
• Align engineering priorities with production to minimise disruption
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability and efficiency
• Support site asset care programme and ensure equipment meets required standards
• Hands-on repair, maintenance and optimisation of engineering assets as needed
• Coordinate maintenance activities with wider Maintenance and Engineering teams
• Engage, motivate and develop team members and support training opportunities
• Manage crisis and incident investigations and implement corrective actions
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and food safety requirements
• Support disciplinary processes when required
• Collaborate with production to resolve engineering issues and promote continuous improvement

Job description

Are you an experienced Engineering Shift Manager looking to join a leading food manufacturing business based in Bradford? You will have a strong engineering background within an FMCG environment, with proven experience of managing and developing an engineering team. As an Engineering Shift Manager, you will play a key role in minimising downtime, improving equipment performance, supporting the asset care programme and ensuring the engineering team delivers a safe and efficient manufacturing operation. This is a permanent night-shift position working 42 hours per week on a 2-2-3 Panama pattern, with a competitive salary and excellent benefits.

As an Engineering Shift Manager your role will involve:

• Lead and manage the engineering team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the manufacturing site
• Minimise machinery downtime through proactive and predictive maintenance, effective fault finding and a swift response to breakdowns
• Ensure engineering priorities are aligned with production requirements to minimise disruption to manufacturing
• Continually identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability and efficiency without compromising product quality
• Lead and support the site asset care programme, ensuring equipment is maintained to the required standards
• Take a hands-on approach to repairing, maintaining and optimising engineering assets when required
• Coordinate maintenance activities and priorities with the wider Maintenance and Engineering teams
• Engage, motivate and develop members of the engineering team, creating a positive and productive working environment
• Support training and development opportunities to improve engineering capability across the team
• Take responsibility for crisis and incident management, including accidents and near misses, ensuring appropriate investigations and corrective actions are completed
• Ensure engineering activities are carried out in line with site health, safety, environmental and food safety requirements
• Support and manage discipline and grievance processes where required
• Work collaboratively with production and operational teams to ensure engineering issues are resolved effectively
• Promote a strong continuous improvement culture across the engineering function

Hours of work:

• 42 hours per week
• Night Shift - 18:00 - 06:00
• Panama Shift Pattern - 2/2/3
• You will work a combination of 2 days on, 2 days off and 3 days on, followed by 2 days off, continuing on a rotating basis.

Suitable Candidates:

• Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering
• ONC Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical & Electrical/Electronic Engineering would be advantageous
• Proven experience working within an engineering and fault-finding role within an FMCG environment, ideally food manufacturing
• Previous experience of managing, leading and developing an engineering team
• Strong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge with excellent fault-finding skills
• Good understanding of HACCP principles and food manufacturing standards
• Ideally qualified to 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
• Confident making decisions and managing engineering issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Excellent communication and people management skills
• Assertive, organised and able to prioritise effectively
• A hands-on, can-do attitude with a strong work ethic
