Research Engineering Manager

Salary - £85,000

Location - London / Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

We seek a driven and experienced Technical Manager to lead our client's research group. You will oversee groundbreaking projects in areas such as video and point cloud compression, AI/ML applications, and algorithm optimization for performance and visual quality.

About the company: MicroTECH Global collaborates with a company at the forefront of parallel data compression, with expertise in AI, data compression, and XR (extended reality). They have developed award-winning software transforming industries like TV, live events, entertainment, social networks, media, aerospace, automotive, and gaming. Their innovation cycle is agile, with rapid testing and implementation facilitated by in-house testing facilities.

Responsibilities: As a Research Engineering Manager, you will:

1. Leadership: Manage daily research group activities, ensuring timely project delivery, team performance, and top talent recruitment.
2. People Development: Mentor engineers through regular 1:1s, objective setting, feedback, and addressing concerns.
3. Technical Leadership: Lead algorithm and software design for data compression systems, guiding your team in developing innovative solutions.
4. Documentation: Maintain technical documentation, including reports, white papers, and IP capture.
5. Process Improvement: Enhance research processes and tools to improve efficiency and quality.

Background and Experience:

• Deep enthusiasm for advancing research in dynamic environments.
• Passion for hypothesis-driven innovation and rapid development cycles.
• Experience in data compression solutions, AI/ML, and/or C++ development.
• Proven leadership and mentorship skills.
• Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and reporting.
• Ability to thrive in an innovative, cross-functional environment.
• Deep understanding of data compression technologies and quality metrics.
• Knowledge of the software development lifecycle and cross-team collaboration.
• Proficiency in Python and C++.
• Experience with parallel processing programming.
• Understanding of standardization processes and organizations.

Beneficial to have:

• Knowledge of Visual Quality assessment techniques.
• Experience with TensorFlow, visual AI, or multimodal Generative AI.
• IP development experience.
• Research presentation experience at conferences and forums.
• Contributions to SDOs.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA.
• Proficiency with GIT.
