The Role of the Engineering Planner

  • This is an ideal starting point for an Engineer or Planner with ambition to develop a longer-term career in Industrial maintenance or for an experienced engineer to gain knowledge and experience in a new industry.
  • The Engineering Planner is responsible for coordinating all planned maintenance activity. This involves scheduling preventive and regular maintenance with minimal interruption to production operations. They are the key contact between the Mobile Plant and Production teams and also supports other departments in relation to planned maintenance work.
  • They are required to cover administration for the department, including managing purchasing documents, organising and administrating manning spreadsheets and planning documents, as well as maintaining records for Statutory compliance purposes.
  • To coordinate maintenance work and projects and facilitate daily and weekly work planning meetings within mobile plant, operations and other departments.
  • To schedule and assign the workload for both the customer's and mobile plant needs.
  • Participates in plant safety, health and environmental programs.
  • Demonstrates an ability to lead and/or influence a team (Engineers, Operations and Outside Suppliers), to solve and execute maintenance work.
  • Creates maintenance schedules, and PM schedules on all critical equipment and regulatory regulated equipment.
  • To support, produce and develop reports, standards and metrics that demonstrate performance, and drive improvements.
  • To place Purchase Requisitions and manage the administration of Purchase Orders
  • To develop maintenance shutdown schedules that integrate all activities into one comprehensive plan.
  • Own the schedule process for mobile plant, produce maintenance KPI's and play an active role in the asset management of mobile plant and material handling equipment.
  • To be fully aware with all functionality and field definitions within all engineering IT systems, providing support training and advice where necessary to plant based personnel.
  • To safely schedule a multi-disciplined team of resident craftsmen and provide cover for Team Leaders when required.
  • To identify and implement developments within the computer maintenance systems, ensuring information is accurate to support plant and engineers.
  • To understand the implications of Statutory / Mandatory regulations / legislation (e.g. VOSA, PUWER, ATEX, LOLER, COSSH etc.) at a basic level only. In particular the registration of test certificates, inspections and technical specifications.

Required Of The Engineering Planner

  • You are qualified to BTEC national level or equivalent
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Comfortable in working in an autonomous way and capable of working to tight deadlines.
  • You must have significant experience of scheduling, specifically maintenance and proven in executing plans in relation to Plant and Vehicle maintenance.
  • You should have experience of continuous improvement techniques and have strong IT skills.
  • You must have a good knowledge of the health and safety principles procedures in relation to maintenance activities and relevant legislation.
  • Experience of dealing with suppliers/contractors would be desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in organising people in a teamworking environment.
  • Experience in Engineering operations.
  • Experience of planning and scheduling work preferably in an Engineering environment.
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Excellent organisational skills/time management/able to work to deadlines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong IT skills.

  • An Engineering qualification
  • HGV Maintenance
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Materials handling equipment
  • Health and safety knowledge particularly of key tasks such as risk assessments
  • Procurement
  • Statutory inspections

For the successful candidate training will be provided to resolve any knowledge or skills gaps.

The Working Pattern of the Engineering Planner

This role will operate on a Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm basis.

Weekend working is not envisaged but if it is necessary due to operational problems equivalent time off will be given. There is some flexibility in working times if required.
