Job summary

Carpmaels & Ransford in the UK offers a training path to qualify as a UK and European patent attorney within our Engineering & Tech practice. You will join a team spanning various engineering and tech sectors and work toward professional qualification in IP.

Candidates should hold a strong degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences (master's level and 2:1 or equivalent; or with postgraduate qualifications). Excellent English, analytical ability, and writing skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong first degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences (minimum master's level and 2:1 or equivalent; or bachelor’s with postgraduate qualifications).
• Physics degrees with an applied leaning or interest in real‑world physics applications are valued.
• No applications from mechanical, civil or aeronautical engineering backgrounds.
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to analyze and communicate complex matters.

Responsibilities

• Support and train to qualify as UK and European patent attorney in the Engineering & Tech practice.
• Work with experts across engineering domains on IP matters and patent prosecution.
• Contribute to due diligence projects and provide clear technical–legal communication.
• Develop broad patenting knowledge and client-facing skills through the firm’s training programme.
