Job summary

Manpower UK in Amesbury, England, is seeking an Engineering Operations Controller for a 4-month assignment on a rotating 4-on/4-off 12-hour shift (0700–1900/1900–0700). The role supports MOD flying operations, coordinating aircraft status, flight line activities and engineering resources.

Summary

The Engineering Operations Controller provides 24/7 operational and engineering coordination support across MOD site, acting as the focal point for aircraft engineering status, flying programme support, flight line activities, visiting aircraft handling and operational coordination. Working a rotating 12-hour shift pattern of 0700–1900 days and 1900–0700 nights, the post holder coordinates engineering and operational activities in a safety-critical aviation environment, ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of flying operations while maintaining compliance with operational and flight safety requirements. The role requires close liaison with Flight Line Controllers, Main Operations, engineering teams, emergency services and other stakeholders to support the delivery of safe and effective airfield operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Coordination

  • Produce and publish aircraft availability and status reports to support flying operations.
  • Coordinate engineering and flight line activities across operational areas.
  • Monitor and oversee flying programme execution, ensuring timely communication of aircraft movements and operational changes.
  • Coordinate fuel support requests and deconflict competing operational requirements.
  • Manage requests for Rotors Running Refuel (RRRF) activities.
  • Coordinate support arrangements for visiting aircraft, including engineering support, parking and ground requirements.
  • Allocate and manage operational facilities including engine running locations and aircraft parking areas.
  • Maintain operational databases relating to flying programmes and facility allocations.
  • Liaise with RAF Main Operations and other stakeholders regarding aircraft engineering and operational matters.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between operational, engineering and support teams.

Emergency Response and Flight Safety

  • Act as an initial focal point for aircraft emergencies alongside Main Operations.
  • Support emergency response coordination and escalation activities.
  • Liaise with the Fire Section regarding fire cover, spill response, containment activities, engine ground runs and RRRF operations.
  • Act as the point of contact for Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and flight safety matters.
  • Promote flight safety awareness and identify potential operational hazards or sources of FOD.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience within an aviation, engineering, military, defence or other safety-critical operational environment.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously within a fast-paced operations environment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering operations, maintenance planning or operational control processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with operational databases, maintenance management systems or engineering records.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and prioritise operational requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in an Engineering Operations Centre, Maintenance Operations Control Centre (MOCC), Flight Line Control, Engineering Planning or similar role.
  • Military aviation or MOD experience.
  • Knowledge of aviation safety management systems.
  • Knowledge of aircraft servicing, ground support equipment or airfield operations.
