Job summary

Assystem in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee technical assurance, design and implementation across defence infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with modern engineering standards and safety requirements.

You will lead engineering teams, manage requirements, guide Project Engineers, coordinate with BIM/CAD, and chair design reviews while promoting best practices. 1–2 days remote per week in a hybrid Glasgow-based role.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably Mechanical, Civil or Electrical).
• Chartered Engineer status or the ability to attain chartered status through ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to develop work scopes, manage requirements, and perform assurance activities for projects.
• Manage engineering support for assigned systems.
• Offer guidance and support to Lead Project Engineers and Project Engineers.
• Assist in the recruitment and development of engineering personnel.
• Deputise for the Head of Engineering and other Engineering Managers when required.
• Promote best practices and ensure the correct behaviours are demonstrated by the engineering team.
• Lead competency assessments and career development initiatives.
• Ensure effective communication of Learning from Experience (LfE) within the team.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to support efficient programme delivery.
• Oversee the management of consultants and contractors.
• Work closely with BIM/CAD teams to integrate engineering solutions.
• Adhere to site Safety Management Arrangements, processes, and procedures.
• Chair meetings and design reviews to ensure project alignment.
• Support programme optioneering and project planning processes.
• Review and approve project documentation.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with industry standards and site-authorised conditions.
• Comply with all Health, Safety, Environment, Security, and Quality policies.
• Deliver engineering presentations and reports as required.
