Job summary

Yeo Valley Organic is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the site engineering team at Newton Abbot, shaping the site strategy and delivering sustainable manufacturing improvements. You will develop high performing teams through Apprenticeships and development plans, manage capital projects and budgets, and align engineering activity with the company's values of people and planet.

This role requires strong leadership, Lean/CI expertise, and a proven track record in FMCG environments to drive

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification (HND/Degree) required.
  • Proven experience in FMCG with track record of improvements.
  • Strong leadership and budget management capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and CI techniques.
  • Experience delivering medium to large scale projects.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental standards.
  • Familiarity with RCM techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Health & Safety of Co-Owners is prioritised.
  • Influence and deliver group engineering strategies as part of the Group Engineering Leadership Team.
  • Shape the site vision with SMT and develop an integrated strategic plan.
  • Provide visionary leadership for the Engineering Team and develop high performing teams via Apprenticeships and PDPs.
  • Lead capital investment projects and budgets delivering sustainable manufacturing capability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of plant performance and ways of working to support a high performing workplace.
  • Negotiate and optimise service contracts within budget and improve operations.

In this role you will inspire and lead teams in an established, distinctive and ambitious food manufacturing company, being influential to the engineering business strategic direction and the ongoing development and execution of our site strategy, enhancing and optimising performance through the development of high performing teams whilst supporting and nurturing our cultural journey.

Key Responsibilities Will Include
  • Ensuring our Co-Owners Health & Safety is put first.
  • Influence and deliver the wider business best practices and strategies as part of the Group Engineering Leadership Team.
  • Contributing to the shaping of the site vision as part of the senior management team (SMT) providing an integrated strategic plan which incorporates all dimensions of people, plant and process development.
  • Provide visionary leadership for the Engineering Team whilst developing a High Performing Team through Apprenticeships and Personal Development Plans that build skills, capabilities and contribution within a culture of engagement and empowerment.
  • Identify and Lead Capital Investment Projects and Budgets for the site that deliver sustainable manufacturing capability and performance.
  • Drive and develop continuous improvement of plant performance, processes and ways of working that support and enable a High Performing Workplace alongside delivering site performance against KPIs and Objectives.
  • Negotiate and optimise service contracts aligned with value adding operational budgetary control and improvements.
The Important Things
  • Engineering Qualification (HND/Degree).
  • Proven, demonstrable experience within FMCG environments and a track record of delivering sustainable improvements.
  • Excellent Leadership Qualities.
  • Proven ability to set, manage/control revenue and capital budgets.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Techniques.
  • Proven track record of specifying and running medium to large scale projects from conception to completion.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental compliance and standards.
  • Knowledge of RCM techniques and principles.
Even Better If You Have
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge of food and dairy principles and processes.
  • The ability to use all aspects of MS Office including MS Project, Smartsheet and SharePoint.
  • Experience of commissioning and installation of machines.
  • Experience of negotiation of service contracts and control of contractors.
