Job summary

Stora, a remote-first software company building an operating platform for self-storage, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead approximately 12 engineers across three product teams. You’ll stay technically informed, coach engineers, and collaborate with Tech Leads.

This is a people-lead role, not a hands-on coding position, with autonomy to shape engineering management practices. You’ll drive performance, promotion decisions, onboarding, and a strong remote culture while partnering with the Head

Qualifications

• Experience managing software engineers across multiple teams or product areas.
• Track record of developing engineers at different career stages.
• Hands-on experience managing performance and difficult situations.
• Experience shaping promotion and progression processes.
• Experience hiring software engineers and building interview processes.
• Engineering background allowing participation in technical conversations.
• Judgement to know when to engage vs. delegate technical ownership.
• Strong written and verbal communication, especially in a remote setting.
• Experience using AI tools to improve software engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineers across multiple product teams with regular 1:1s and feedback.
• Define and uphold career levels, expectations and reviews.
• Drive promotion and progression decisions with evidence-based approaches.
• Create a culture where feedback happens year-round, not only in reviews.
• Own hiring alongside Tech Leads and ensure strong onboarding for new engineers.
• Monitor team engagement, retention, and collaboration while addressing issues.
• Maintain a healthy remote engineering culture and align with Tech Leads.
