Job summary

VVB Engineering is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead multidisciplinary design and engineering activities within their sector. You will coordinate with sector heads, project managers, and the supply chain to deliver projects on time and within budget.

You will mentor graduates, uphold VVB’s CORE values, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality procedures across all phases of design and construction.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree from a UK-accredited institution.
• Chartered Engineer with Engineering Council registration.
• Professional membership of a recognised engineering institution.
• HSE training (SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely).
• CSCS Card – AQP or PQP minimum.
• Full UK driving licence and use of own car.

Responsibilities

• Providing leadership in all facets of engineering and design activities within their sector, to deliver projects on cost, time and quality.
• Ensuring compliance with Design Management and Assurance Procedures and Quality Management System.
• Ensuring design reviews are conducted for buildability and constructability; identifying weaknesses or errors that could impact functionality.
• Developing and managing effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to integrate requirements into projects.
• Overseeing health and safety standards across all project stages.
• Promoting value engineering at the start of each design stage to reduce costs while increasing functionality.
• Preparing or overseeing engineering hour estimates and programmes aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Conducting proactive inspections/audits to ensure compliance and resolving non-conformances.
• Managing engineer allocations within the sector to meet schedule and demobilisations.
• Producing design registers, design management & assurance plans, meeting minutes, and drawing registers.
• Managing formal communications (RFIs, TQs, EWN, MARs).
• Ensuring risk registers are suitable and sufficient for designers.
• Carrying out CAT 1 or 2 design checks.
• Acting as Design Manager on smaller projects as required.
• Carrying out peer reviews of design projects from other sectors.
• Working with Commercial Teams to track design change and variances.
• Driving procurement of services and works to deliver projects.
• Coordinating with Planning to forecast and adjust resources, time and cost to maintain programme.
• Attending FAT and SAT where required to ensure compliance.
• Promoting a work environment with openness, trust, teamwork, empowerment and innovation.

Education

Engineering degree (UK accredited)

Engineering Council-Chartered status

Professional Membership – IET / IMechE / IFE / CIBSE

HSE training (SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely)

CSCS Card – AQP or PQP

Full UK driving licence
