Job summary

Verda is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Cloud engineering team to shape structure, priorities, and delivery, enabling engineers to focus on building. You will lead people, hire, coach, and align with Product and the Tech Lead on decisions, balancing product goals with technical constraints in a fast-growing environment.

You will operate in a hybrid mode with offices in London and Helsinki, fostering fairness, psychological safety, and sustainable performance while guiding team growth.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineers through clear expectations, regular feedback, development, and fair performance management.
• Experience building or improving a team's operating system, not just coordinating its meetings.
• Strong delivery judgement: prioritisation, dependencies, risk management.
• Sufficient technical background to coach and assess without taking over ownership.
• Experience hiring and onboarding engineers to scale teams.
• Strong collaboration with Product and technical leadership with clear ownership boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Establish team structure, ownership, and ways of working to empower decision-making.
• Build planning and coordination practices to support delivery without adding unnecessary process.
• Remove administrative work that distracts engineers from building.
• Own people leadership: expectations, feedback, growth, hiring, onboarding.
• Coordinate delivery and dependencies, keeping priorities and risks visible.
• Agree priorities with Product and the Tech Lead, balancing product needs and technical constraints.
• Improve the system when delivery or coordination problems recur rather than patching around them.
