Job summary

Hargreaves Lansdown is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead core backend capabilities for its multi-year transformation. You will remain hands-on while guiding architecture, APIs, events and integration patterns across squads, building a high-performing engineering team that modernises legacy workflows safely and at scale.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading a backend or integration engineering team.
• Strong software engineering with TypeScript or a comparable modern backend language.
• Deep practical knowledge of REST APIs, messaging, event-driven patterns.

Responsibilities

• Lead backend services, APIs, integration components and patterns.
• Own the squad's technical direction and ensure scalable backend estate for transformation.
• Design and deliver synchronous, asynchronous and event-driven integrations with cloud-native patterns.
• Set API-first design standards, versioning, testing, observability and resilience.
• Review code/ designs to remove blockers and ensure production readiness.
