Job summary

Bridgestaff Group is recruiting an Engineering Manager for a new regional distribution centre in Avonmouth. You will lead a team of maintenance professionals, shaping maintenance strategy and safety culture in a 24/7 operation.

You will own maintenance delivery, compliance, and continuous improvement, with evening and night premiums and on-call duties as part of the site leadership team.

Qualifications

• Maintenance leadership experience in a distribution, logistics, retail, manufacturing or similar environment.
• Proven experience managing multi-skilled engineering teams.
• Strong Health & Safety and statutory compliance knowledge.
• Experience managing contractors, suppliers and maintenance budgets.
• NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of multi-skilled engineers and maintenance professionals.
• Drive a culture of safety, compliance, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
• Manage planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the site.
• Ensure statutory compliance, audits, inspections, and record keeping.
• Build relationships with contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
• Monitor maintenance performance and identify opportunities for cost savings and improvements.
• Support maintenance projects and ensure safe, efficient delivery.
• Assist with budget management, procurement, and capital expenditure planning.
• Ensure site compliance relating to Health & Safety, Fire Safety, LOLER, PUWER, Legionella, and other requirements.
• Support sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives.

Play a key role in the launch of a brand-new distribution facility.

We are recruiting an Engineering Manager for a newly established regional distribution centre in Avonmouth. This is a rare opportunity to join the site leadership team from the beginning, helping to shape maintenance strategy, build engineering capability and create a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement.

Leading a team of maintenance professionals, you will take ownership of planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance and engineering performance across a major distribution operation. This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact within a growing business and influence the future direction of the site.

The Role

As Maintenance Manager, you will support the delivery of the site's maintenance strategy, ensuring all maintenance, compliance, and safety activities are carried out effectively. You will lead a team of engineering technicians and trades professionals, promoting a culture of performance, accountability, and safety.

The site operates 24/7, and the successful candidate will participate in a regular call-out rota, requiring availability by phone and attendance on site within one hour for critical situations.

In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 18:00 - 22:00 will attract an Evening Premium at a rate of £3.75 per hour, and any time worked between 22:00 - 06:00 will attract a Night Premium at a rate of £4.75 per hour.

• Requirements
• Maintenance leadership experience within a distribution, logistics, retail, manufacturing, or similar environment.
• Proven experience managing multi-skilled engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and statutory compliance requirements.
• Experience managing contractors, supplier relationships, and maintenance budgets.
• Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and CAFM systems.
• NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification).
• Strong problem-solving, planning, and reporting skills.
• Knowledge of maintenance compliance auditing and asset management systems.
• Experience delivering engineering or maintenance improvement projects.
