Job summary

Hireful is seeking a proactive engineering manager to lead the engineering function at a busy manufacturing site between Eye and Diss on the Suffolk/Norfolk borders. You will drive plant availability, ensure peak performance and uphold safety standards.

You will manage a team, oversee contractors, develop PPM schedules, lead continuous improvement and minimise downtime, with a 55k salary and a Monday–Friday 8am–5pm schedule.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or HNC/HND in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Significant heavy manufacturing experience.
• Strong fault-finding across mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proven leadership of engineering teams.
• Data-led decision making and stock control.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of 1-3 direct reports with coaching and development.
• Develop, implement, and monitor site-wide PPM schedules.
• Coordinate mechanical and electrical responses to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Analyse breakdown data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Manage engineering budgets, critical spares stock levels, and external contractors.

In this role, you will be the driving force behind plant availability, ensuring that all machinery operates at peak performance while maintaining the highest safety standards.

As the link between production and site leadership, you will manage a dedicated engineering team, oversee contractors, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to minimise downtime.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Managing a team of 1-3 direct reports, providing coaching and professional development.
• Developing, implementing, and monitoring site-wide Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
• Coordinating mechanical and electrical engineering responses to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Analysing breakdown data to identify root causes and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Managing engineering budgets, critical spares stock levels, and external contractors.

What You Need

• A time-served Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification e.g. HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Significant experience working within a heavy manufacturing environment.
• Strong fault-finding capabilities across both mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proven experience in leading or managing engineering teams.
• The ability to utilise a data-led approach for decision-making and stock control.
