Job description

Title: Engineering Manager

Department: Engineering - reporting to the CPTO

Salary: £87,500 - £125,000 (depending on experience and seniority)

Benefits & Culture: See here.

Equity: A very generous EMI share offering.

Holiday: 26 days + bank holidays.

Mission: Elevate later life for everybody and build the care sector of the future.

Office Policy: Hybrid with a minimum of 2 core office days per week.

Office Location: London Bridge, London, UK.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact product engineering team focused on Lottie's marketplace (lottie.org). This is a critical role where you will play a key part in enhancing the experience for families navigating the later living sector, while helping our partners (care home and home care providers) maximise their reach.

Your team will drive significant marketplace improvements by boosting conversion rates and organic traffic, while also building exciting new capabilities from the ground up. You and your team will refactor and simplify code for scalability and maintainability, enrich listings for a personalised user experience, and ultimately guide customers toward the best possible care for their loved ones.

What does this role involve?

  • A significant portion of your time will be spent coding alongside your team, leading by example on technical best practices. This is a genuinely hands-on role (React, Next, Typescript, AWS, Kubernetes,...)
  • Driving the product decisions and roadmap alongside the Product Manager and Designer.
  • Managing a team of 3-4 engineers; helping them grow and deliver more impact
  • Helping the team operate effectively by breaking problems down into simpler ones for fast delivery and impact.
  • Make key architectural decisions with other tech leaders.

What problems will you be solving?

  • Rebuild our search engine to provide more personalised results.
  • Build a chatbot to help users find the best care.
  • Provide a self-service platform so our Marketing team can build new landing pages autonomously.
  • Improve tracking of user flows to identify drop off.
  • Run many experiments to improve conversions.
  • Among many others!

We think you’ll be a great fit if…

  • You are a self starter. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable working on challenges with many unknowns. You provide clarity and make things happen
  • You have 7+ years of hands on experience in software engineering, including leading technical decisions and mentoring engineers and have worked across the stack
  • You are both product minded and conscious of what great looks like from an engineering point of view. You focus relentlessly on impact and decreasing the cost of change.
  • You have embraced AI. You use cursor, windsurf or similar and try AI for all kind of productivity improvements while understanding the limitations of existing LLMs
  • You have partnered with PMs and Designers before, ideally on web products.
  • You value diversity and inclusion and are passionate about creating a space where everyone’s voices are heard, respected, and celebrated.
  • You’re someone who brings joy and enjoys building meaningful work relationships.

This role isn’t for you if…

  • Our mission to elevate later life care doesn’t resonate with you.
  • You aren’t comfortable with ambiguity, or thinking from first principles.
  • You don’t enjoy working in a fast paced environment with loosely defined requirements.
  • You don’t enjoy being hands on anymore. We believe leaders should operate at all levels
  • You are more comfortable with perfect tomorrow over good enough today.

Lottie’sInterview Process

  1. Screening interview led by Lottie’s Talent Acquisition Lead
  2. First round interview led by Hiring Manager
  3. Technical assessment interview with the Hiring Manager and one member of Lottie’s Senior Management Team
  4. Behavioural interview with Hiring Manager
  5. Final interview with Will Donnelly (Lottie’s Co-Founder & CEO)

Candidate Experience: The majority of feedback will be given via email and we try our very best to give specific and constructive feedback where possible.
