Job description

We’re looking for an expert to support a consulting engagement for a marine technology division that provides engineering and maintenance support to a fleet of diamond mining vessels operating offshore in Southern Africa. The division manages shutdowns, system overhauls, and underwater technology upgrades for mining and vessels that integrate advanced underwater mining, treatment, and control systems. These are highly specialized operations—similar in nature to oilfield and offshore maintenance services in terms of pricing, cost recovery, and asset-readiness requirements.

Scope of Support:
  • Review how current underwater maintenance and engineering services are structured, priced, and costed for these vessels.
  • Benchmark rate structures and cost‑recovery models with comparable offshore service providers (e.g., subsea maintenance, underwater UAV operations) in the South African and international markets.
  • Advise on a financial and pricing model that distinguishes internal (in‑house fleet support) and external (commercial clients) applications.
  • Recommend approaches to optimize internal efficiency while identifying potential for external commercialization of select services.
Ideal Expert Profile:
  • 10–15+ years in offshore or subsea engineering, oilfield services, or marine asset maintenance.
  • Strong exposure to pricing, rate‑card design, cost modelling, and commercial operations.
  • Familiarity with shutdown planning, mission system integration, or subsea mining / underwater UAV operations
