Job summary

Virgin Active in London is seeking an Engineering Lead - Integration to drive backend APIs and integration across our digital ecosystem within the Digital & Technology Transformation Team. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, owning complex initiatives from design through deployment and guiding peers to secure, scalable solutions in Azure and .NET.

This permanent, full-time position is 40 hours per week, offering a clear path to influence architecture, reliability

Qualifications

• Significant software engineering experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with C#, .NET and Microsoft Azure.
• Experience building backend services, RESTful APIs and integration solutions.
• Strong knowledge of API-led, event-driven and asynchronous integration patterns.
• Experience designing scalable solutions across internal and third-party systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of backend services, APIs and integrations.
• Own complex initiatives from design through to deployment.
• Design and develop C# and .NET solutions within Azure.
• Set engineering standards and lead code and architecture reviews.
• Guide engineers through complex technical challenges.
• Work with Product, QA, Data and frontend teams to deliver solutions end to end.
• Improve system reliability, security, performance and observability.
• Lead incident resolution and help reduce technical debt.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies and delivery challenges.
• Share knowledge and support strong engineering practices across the team.

You will provide technical leadership across the backend services, APIs and integrations that power our digital ecosystem. Combining hands-on engineering with technical guidance, you will lead complex delivery, support other engineers and help ensure we build secure, reliable and scalable solution

The Role

Who We're Looking For

• Significant software engineering experience, including technical leadership responsibilities.
• Strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET and Microsoft Azure.
• Experience building backend services, RESTful APIs and integration solutions.
• Strong knowledge of API-led, event-driven and asynchronous integration patterns.
• Experience designing scalable solutions across internal and third-party systems.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and DevOps practices.
• Experience leading technical delivery and supporting other engineers.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience with Azure Service Bus, Logic Apps, Functions, Event Grid, Kafka or RabbitMQ would be advantageous.
