Job description

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact
  • Every bridge, rail corridor, water asset and major infrastructure project starts with understanding the ground beneath it.
  • As an Engineering Geomorphologist in Jacobs' Glasgow team, you'll help clients understand and manage some of nature's most complex challenges, from landslides and erosion to natural hazard risk and landscape change. Your work will directly influence how major projects are designed, delivered and protected for generations to come.
  • This is an opportunity to move beyond pure analysis and see your expertise make a real-world impact. You'll help safeguard communities, improve infrastructure resilience and support sustainable development across the UK and beyond.
  • If you're fascinated by the forces that shape our planet and want to apply that knowledge to meaningful engineering projects, this is where your career can make a difference.

Shape the landscapes that shape our future

What's In It For You

We're committed to helping you build a career, not just fill a role.

You'll join a supportive team that invests in your growth, provides exposure to exciting, high-profile projects and gives you the flexibility to thrive both professionally and personally.

Please note this is not suitable for fresh graduates - you need proper, commercial experience in the role (not just placement or internship).

Here’s what you can look forward to:
  • Working on major infrastructure and environmental projects across multiple sectors
  • Learning from industry-leading geoscientists, geomorphologists and geotechnical specialists
  • Structured support towards professional development and chartership
  • Exposure to a wide variety of technical challenges and environments
  • Flexible and hybrid ways of working
  • Opportunities to undertake fieldwork across some of the UK's most diverse landscapes
  • A collaborative culture where curiosity, innovation and knowledge-sharing are encouraged
  • Being part of a global team of more than 400 geoscience, geotechnical and tunnelling professionals

Whether you're currently in consultancy, academia or an applied environmental role, you'll have the opportunity to accelerate your development and broaden your expertise.

We Offer
  • Compensation that reflects your skills and experience
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • 24 days annual leave plus the option to buy up to 10 additional days
  • Enhanced pension contributions of up to 10%
  • Private medical cover and Digital GP access
  • Enhanced parental leave and family support programmes
  • Employee Networks: We have a commitment to hiring a diverse workforce and supporting colleagues of different backgrounds
  • Income protection for long-term financial security
  • Access to wellbeing support, including Calm and Daily Burn
  • Professional memberships funded and ongoing development opportunities
  • Paid volunteering time, matched charity funding, and community engagement programmes
About the Opportunity

Due to continued growth, project wins and ambitious plans for the future, we're looking for an early-career Engineering Geomorphologist to join our Glasgow team.

You’ll become part of a multidisciplinary environment where geomorphology, engineering geology, geotechnics, environmental science and water expertise come together to solve complex ground-related challenges.

No two weeks are the same.

One day you could be analysing terrain models and producing GIS outputs. The next, you'll be out in the field investigating landslides, assessing natural hazards or mapping landforms in remote landscapes.

You’ll contribute throughout the project lifecycle, providing technical insight that helps clients understand risk, improve resilience and make better decisions.

Your work is likely to include:
  • Undertaking geomorphological surveys and site investigations
  • Mapping landforms, terrain features and geohazards
  • Supporting natural hazard and risk assessments
  • Interpreting topographic, LiDAR and remote sensing datasets
  • Producing GIS-based analysis and mapping outputs
  • Providing geomorphological input to engineering and environmental projects
  • Collaborating with geotechnical, environmental and water specialists across multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting the development of innovative, sustainable solutions for clients

This role includes regular fieldwork and travel to project locations, including remote and upland environments.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • A degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Physical Geography, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
  • Strong GIS skills and experience using GIS software
  • Experience gained within a consultancy, research or academic environment
  • Interest in geomorphology, geohazards, natural hazards and landscape processes
  • A valid UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally spend time away from home on project work
  • Motivation to work towards professional chartership
You’ll stand out if you also have:
  • A Master's degree or PhD in Geomorphology, Engineering Geology or a related subject
  • Experience producing geomorphological maps and GIS deliverables
  • Knowledge of LiDAR, remote sensing and terrain analysis
  • Experience undertaking natural terrain hazard or risk assessments

We're looking for someone with a genuine passion for understanding how landscapes evolve and how natural processes interact with the built environment.

Ready to Shape What's Next?

If you're looking for a role where your work will influence major projects, expand your technical expertise and help solve real-world environmental and engineering challenges, we'd love to hear from you.

Join Jacobs and turn your passion for landscapes, natural processes and geohazards into a career that leaves a lasting impact.
