Job description

Launch your career with one of the UK's leading ground engineering consultancies. Join Coffey Geotechnics, a Tetra Tech company, and work alongside industry‑leading specialists delivering innovative engineering geology and geotechnical solutions on major infrastructure and development projects across the UK and internationally.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As an Engineering Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer, you'll become part of a strong team delivering consultancy services across engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, mining and geo‑environmental disciplines. From day one, you'll gain hands‑on experience supporting the planning, investigation, assessment, design and delivery of complex ground engineering projects while developing your technical expertise alongside experienced professionals.

Your Impact in this Position

You'll contribute to a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, buildings and land development projects by undertaking field investigations, technical assessments, interpretative reporting and design activities. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, you'll engage with clients, support construction supervision and help deliver practical, science‑led engineering solutions both in the UK and overseas.

5 Core Capabilities
  • Technical Excellence: Apply engineering geology and geotechnical principles to real‑world projects. Support site investigations, assessments, reporting and engineering design.
  • Field & Site Delivery: Undertake office and site‑based work, including inspections and construction support. Contribute to safe, high‑quality project delivery across varied environments.
  • Analytical Thinking: Interpret geological and geotechnical data to develop practical engineering solutions. Demonstrate strong observational, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and build positive client relationships. Produce clear technical reports and communicate findings with confidence.
  • Professional Development: Learn from recognised technical experts through structured mentoring. Receive full support towards Chartered status with the Geological Society, IOM3 or ICE.
Training, Qualifications & Experience

A 2:1 or First‑class degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering is essential. An MSc in Engineering Geology, Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering is desirable. You'll also demonstrate a genuine interest in ground engineering, strong communication skills, and the flexibility to undertake site work and occasional overseas travel.

Working Environment

This role combines office and site‑based work, with opportunities to work across the UK and internationally. Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are available where project requirements allow, alongside regular collaboration with colleagues in the office.

In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, we will make reasonable adjustments to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements. This could include adaptations to work schedules, training approaches, or the physical workspace.
