Job summary

Stagecoach is seeking an experienced Engineering Director to lead the South region, overseeing eight maintenance depots across Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey. The role focuses on safe, reliable fleet operation, compliant depots, and strong people leadership.

You will report to the Managing Director and act as a nominated Transport Manager on the Operator's Licence. relocation support and a strong, collaborative culture are part of the package.

Qualifications

• Qualified in engineering with a recognised professional credential.
• Experience leading engineering operations across multiple sites.
• Collaborative and inclusive leadership with strong communication.
• Knowledge of health & safety, environmental and transport legislation.
• Willingness to travel across the South and relocate if needed.

Responsibilities

• Leading multi-site engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable and well-presented vehicles.
• Overseeing depot facilities, premises and engineering equipment across the region.
• Promoting a safety-first culture and ensuring compliance with regulations and company standards.
• Developing team capability through coaching, mentoring and technical training.
• Building strong, constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including local authorities and trade unions.
• Championing continuous improvement and innovation within engineering.
• Managing performance to meet budgets, KPIs and service expectations.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to improve customer satisfaction and align with Stagecoach's CVP.

Looking to lead an impactful engineering operation where safety, people and performance come first?

We're looking for an experienced and people-focused Engineering Director to lead our South region, covering eight maintenance depots across Hampshire, West Sussex, and Surrey. In this key senior leadership role, you'll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all engineering activity, ensuring our fleet is reliable, our depots are compliant and well-managed, and our people are supported to do their best work every day. You'll report to the Managing Director and act as one of the nominated Transport Manager's on the Operator's Licence. What you'll be doing

What we're looking for

• A recognised qualification in engineering
• Ideally qualified as a transport manager, but not essential
• Proven experience leading engineering operations across multiple sites
• A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with strong communication skills
• Knowledge of health & safety, environmental and transport legislation
• Experience delivering to KPIs, managing budgets, and working in a unionised environment
• Confident managing both strategic planning and day-to-day operational delivery
• Willingness to travel across the South and live locally (relocation support available)
