National Grid is seeking an accomplished Head of Engineering Design to lead a 90+ strong engineering team across Tipton, Castle Donington, Bristol and Cardiff. The role emphasizes safety, productivity and delivery excellence within NGED's major network investment programme.

You will set objectives, drive continuous improvement, and partner with Major Projects and Policy to ensure designs meet regulatory requirements and budget goals.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading large technical teams in electrical engineering design.
• Proven track record delivering operational and strategic improvements.
• Strong leadership and ability to drive change across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience with NEC contracts and Design & Build delivery models.

Responsabilités

• Lead, develop and inspire a team of 90+ engineering professionals across multiple sites.
• Set objectives and performance measures aligned with major projects and wider business goals.
• Ensure timely delivery of high-quality EHV substation, protection & control, civil, and linear designs.
• Maintain governance and assurance to meet NGED policies and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and embed outsourcing models to support future network growth and resilience.
• Collaborate with other NGED teams to ensure ICP designs meet NGED standards.
