In aerospace, transportation, defence, security, and space, our architects design innovative solutions that make our tomorrow's possible.

Together we offer fantastic opportunities for committed employees to learn and develop their career with us. At Thales UK, we research, develop, and supply technology and services that impact the lives of millions of people each day to make life better and keep us safer. We innovate across five major industries: Aerospace, Defence, Ground Transportation, Security, and Space.

Your health and well-being matter to us, and that’s why we offer you the flexibility to do what’s important to you; whether that’s part-time hours, job sharing, home working, or the ability to flex your start and finish times. Where possible, we support a working pattern that suits your lifestyle and helps you reach your ambitions.

Primary Purpose of Role

We are looking for Engineering Delivery Managers to join the Central Engineering team to support complex projects across the UK business and multiple domains.

The successful candidate will report to the UK Systems Engineering Director to define, support, and/or commence execution of systems engineering and engineering management activities on various projects throughout their lifecycle. Projects may require external help and expertise to maintain or regain schedule/technical baseline or additional resources to drive success.

The role will lead and/or guide the project/programme engineering team, focusing on deploying a systems approach, developing efficient ways of working, and fostering individual and team development.

In addition to leading project engineering activities, the role may involve participating in and leading tiger team reviews for bids and projects, balancing engineering excellence with practical delivery capabilities.

Successful candidates, once established in an engineering role on a project, may transfer into a permanent role within a business unit. Mobility and location flexibility are therefore essential.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Collaborate within and across various teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Define and manage solution engineering activities, including identifying necessary skills and driving delivery through governance.
  • Responsible for specification and execution of systems engineering management and control processes.
  • Produce and maintain management plans such as Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and Through Life Management Plans (TLMP).
  • Develop and maintain customer/stakeholder relations, actively seeking information to understand their circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs.
  • Define the system development cycle, practices, and tools (PP&T) based on project constraints.
  • Ensure consistency of engineering processes, organize co-engineering, and approve lower-level solution components.
Leadership Skills
  • Engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Work in multi-stakeholder environments to set clear, achievable goals.
  • Encourage an open environment for sharing ideas and stimulating innovation.
  • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, collaborating with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Understanding of systems engineering lifecycle, practices, and tools.
  • Experience with multi-stakeholder change management.
  • Experience delivering system-level program content in land, sea, or air domains.
  • Ability to assess benefits versus risks.
  • Knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS).
  • Experience in executing SE lifecycle processes: Requirements Elicitation, System Specification, Interface Specification, Test Specification, Trade Studies.

Note: Due to the nature of projects, UK candidates only.
