Job summary

Spirit Energy is seeking an Engineering Authority for Barrow-in-Furness on a 2-year PAYE contract. The role entails governance, risk management, and technical decision-making to ensure safe, compliant operations across the asset lifecycle.

You will lead a technically expert team, own the Technical Authority Framework, and drive improvements in engineering practices while aligning with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or technology required.
• Chartered Engineer status preferred.
• Experience in senior technical assurance roles.
• Strong knowledge of codes, standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to lead investigations (Kelvin TopSet) and risk reduction.

Responsibilities

• Act as Engineering Authority with authority to approve or reject engineering decisions.
• Custodian of discipline engineering standards and asset documentation; ensure compliance.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve Technical Authority Framework.
• Own the quality of SECE performance standards.
• Identify, assess, and manage technical risks to ALARP level.
• Lead hazard identification and technical risk assessments.
• Support incident investigations with technical judgement and root cause analysis.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tools, and governance.
