Job summary

DP World at London Gateway in Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, is seeking an Engineering Asset Manager to oversee asset availability, reliability, and maintenance planning for the ASC team, with strong leadership of engineering operations.

The role is focused on driving asset performance, safety, and continuous improvement while delivering on KPIs, stakeholder collaboration, and long-term asset strategy for a busy port environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of managing critical assets in complex operational environments.
  • Improving asset reliability and availability in high pressure settings.
  • Significant leadership experience within large engineering or asset teams.
  • Experience with assets in production, logistics, manufacturing or port environments.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and risk management.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Experience managing budgets, resources and contractor performance.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Provide visible leadership across operations, upholding health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Act as escalation point for significant technical or operational issues and drive problem-solving.
  • Oversee engineering projects and maintenance programmes ensuring quality, cost and time objectives.
  • Support long-term asset strategies and investment planning.

About The Role
How will you contribute:
  • Leading, developing and motivating engineering teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety and continuous improvement.
  • High focus in driving asset performance through effective maintenance strategies, operational planning and reliability improvements to maximise equipment availability and efficiency.
  • Managing and achieving departmental KPIs, ensuring operational performance meets business and customer requirements.
  • Building strong relationships with operational stakeholders, employee representatives and contractors to support effective decision-making and service delivery.
  • Leading succession planning, workforce development and capability-building initiatives to ensure long-term team success.
  • Managing departmental budgets, contractor performance and resource planning to deliver value while maintaining operational excellence.
  • Providing visible leadership across operational areas, promoting the highest standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and safe working practices.
  • Acting as the escalation point for significant technical or operational issues, driving effective problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Overseeing engineering projects and maintenance programmes, ensuring delivery to agreed quality, cost and timescale objectives.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • People-focused and analytical engineering leader with a proven track record of managing critical assets in complex operational environments.
  • Proven track record of improving critical engineering asset reliability and availability in high pressure/demanding environments
  • Significant leadership experience within large engineering or asset management teams.
  • Experience managing critical operational assets in a production, logistics, manufacturing, port, industrial or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and risk management within safety-critical environments.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Experience managing and reporting on budgets, resources and contractor performance.
  • Ability to remain resilient, adaptable and effective in a dynamic environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
