Job summary

Tetra Tech seeks a Highway/Civil Engineer to design and deliver highways and drainage infrastructure across the North West and beyond. You will take ownership from concept to delivery, liaising with clients and authorities, and leading schemes such as S278/S38.

With a Chartered progression in sight, you will mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical assurance while working within a hybrid North West team. A UK driving licence is required.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or equivalent with progression towards chartership (CEng MICE/CIHT).
  • Strong experience in highways and drainage design, including SuDS and development infrastructure.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D (or Site 3D/PDS) and MicroDrainage.
  • Good understanding of statutory approvals, commercial awareness, and strong communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Own projects from design through to delivery, acting as a key contact for clients and stakeholders.
  • Lead the design of highway and drainage schemes including S278, S38, S104 and related works.
  • Contribute to technical assurance, mentoring colleagues and continuous improvement.
  • Engage with statutory authorities and ensure compliance with standards and local requirements.
  • Support commercial performance through effective project and change management.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a Highway/Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure across a wide range of development and public sector projects. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to integrated, technically robust solutions across residential, commercial and major infrastructure schemes.

You will take ownership of projects from design through to delivery, acting as a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders. The role involves leading the design of highway and drainage schemes (including S278, S38, S104 and S185), ensuring compliance with relevant standards such as DMRB, Sewers for Adoption and local authority requirements.

Your ability to manage projects independently, produce high-quality designs, and engage effectively with clients and statutory authorities will be critical to project success.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or equivalent, with progression towards chartership (CEng MICE/CIHT). Working Environment

This role offers flexible working across the North West, with access to offices in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Cumbria. A hybrid model is supported, typically combining office and remote working, with office attendance based on project and team needs. Travel to project sites may be required, and flexible working arrangements are available.
