Layka Connect is seeking a Senior/Principal Civil Engineer in the UK to lead drainage and highway infrastructure design for development projects. You will work with project managers across the business to deliver high-quality solutions, combining technical rigor with practical delivery.

The role requires a degree in Civil Engineering and 5+ years of UK development experience. Strong AutoCAD and Civils 3D skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate clearly

Qualifications

• Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of UK development-related infra engineering experience.
• Knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets, Sewers for Adoption, local road standards, planning policy.
• Experience in highways and drainage design for S38, S278, S104.
• Experience with Microdrainage/Causeway Flow software.

Responsibilities

We are recruiting for a specialist design practice with an integrated approach supporting our clients on projects from conception, through consent and during construction. What You'll Do:

The role would focus on providing drainage and highway infrastructure design on all types and sizes of new development, supporting and collaborating with project managers from across the business to meet the needs and expectations of our clients. We are keen to ensure that we continue to provide the high-quality innovative solutions and service that our clients have come to expect from us. Your ability to learn, adapt and provide new thinking will be invaluable to the role.

Some specific requirements of this role will be to:

• Develop technical highway and drainage designs to support S104, S38 and S278 applications.
• Undertake a variety of technical assessments for new developments.
• Explain technical concepts to others including more junior colleagues and clients.
• Check technical outputs, drawings and reports produced by junior staff.
• Prepare or supervise the preparation of presentations and present information to internal and external groups.
• Manage projects with moderate supervision ensuring outputs are delivered on time and to an excellent standard.
• Provide updates on the progress of tasks in line with programmes.
• Write reports and liaise with Clients / Project Managers on the management and co-ordination of projects.
• Ensure compliance with the relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Prepare or supervise the preparation of presentations and present information to internal and external groups.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, innovations, and best practices in infrastructure engineering and construction.

The ideal candidate:

We are seeking a Senior or Principal Engineer with strong AutoCAD and Civils 3D skills.

You will be organised, capable of managing multiple tasks and competing priorities effectively, and demonstrate good time management. A creative mindset would be advantageous. Additionally, you will be self-motivated, able to conduct independent research, and produce high-quality reports.

Experience

• A degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in UK development-related infrastructure engineering.
• Demonstrate suitable knowledge of relevant design standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets, Sewers for Adoption, local road standards and relevant planning policy.
• Be experienced in the preparation of highways and drainage design and in particular S38, S278 and S104 processes.
• Knowledge and application of drainage design from first principles and experience in the use of Microdrainage and/or Causeway flow software.
• Have experience in writing flood risk assessments or drainage strategies for development projects.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and written skills.
• Be motivated, enthusiastic and committed to further developing your career in Civil Engineering.
• Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams and welcome competence in Power BI and Access).
• Have basic skills or a good understanding of AutoCAD and Civils 3D.
• A full UK driving license, as the role may require you to visit sites only accessible by car.
