Job summary

Slingsby Advanced Composites Ltd. invites applications for a Manufacturing Engineer based at our Kirkbymoorside site in North Yorkshire. The role focuses on improving manufacturing processes, applying lean tools and driving efficiency across the production cycle.

The successful candidate will have vocational mechanical qualifications (ONC/HNC) or related experience, with a proven track record in a busy factory environment and strong communications to support cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Vocational or specialised field qualification (ONC/HNC) in mechanical or production engineering.
  • Time served/apprenticeship or experience in a similar role with transferable skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead continuous improvement of products using lean tools to maximise efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Identify process improvements during manufacturing in line with SQCDP requirements.
  • Lead RCCA investigations to apply corrective actions and reduce repeat non-conformances.
  • Assemble and generate job cards until production handover is complete.
  • Collaborate with production/process engineers to select correct materials for tooling and fixtures.
  • Assist production planning and update process plans.
  • Support first-off manufacture and improvement initiatives.
  • Attend materials review board meetings and take engineering actions.

Slingsby Advanced Composites has an exciting brand-new opportunity available for a Manufacturing Engineer to join this busy team. We are looking for individuals with experience in a production environment and engineering processes. Ideal candidate should have experience in composites or provide a statement on how you have transferable skills.

Skills Required for the Role
  • The continuous improvement of product through the life cycle using lean tools and techniques to maximise efficiency and reduce waste.
  • To identify process improvements during the manufacturing cycle in line with SQCDP requirements.
  • To lead appropriate RCCA to ensure correct mitigations are applied to reduce repeat non-conformance.
  • The assembly and generation of job cards as required until complete production handover is achieved.
  • To liaise with production / process engineers to ensure the correct materials are selected for both tooling, covering support fixtures and craft related jigs in support of parts manufacture.
  • To work with Production Management to ensure production estimates for hours and materials are both accurate and reflective of current processes.
  • To provide additional support to the production teams in writing production planning documentation and updating of process plans.
  • To work closely with the production team members to support first-off manufacture and improvement initiatives.
  • To attend materials review board meetings and carry out any engineering related actions required to support the production teams.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and qualification in a vocational or specialised field short of degree level ie ONC / HNC Mechanical / Production Engineering
  • Time served / recognised apprenticeship in related industry / or experienced in a similar role with transferable skills.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience of working in a complex manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrable experience of applying decision making and Continuous Improvement skills within a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
