Nationwide is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Analytics team to deliver data products to auditable standards, build technical and business knowledge, collaborate effectively, and progressively take greater ownership.
With data driving decision-making, the role emphasizes data quality, security, governance and a growth mindset through new technologies and challenges. Hybrid working is supported across the UK.
We are looking for a Data Engineer to work within the Analytics team to deliver well defined data products to an auditable standard, build technical and business knowledge, collaborate effectively, and progressively take greater ownership.
With data driving the way the Society makes day to day decisions, Data and Analytics are at the forefront of the data strategy. We are looking for experienced cross-functional collaborators to thrive in Agile ways of working to ensure we are continuously improving our platforms - with data as the number one asset.
Success in this role means delivering reliable, high-quality data solutions while continually developing your technical and business knowledge. You’ll take increasing ownership of your work, collaborate effectively across teams, apply strong data quality, security and governance practices, and demonstrate a growth mindset by embracing new technologies and challenges.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
The working hours (per week) for this role are between 28 and 35.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location, we would welcome your application and, if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role.
Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.
If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.
Uncompromisingly Customer, whatever our role
We forge our own path at Nationwide.
As a mutual, we’re owned by our members - those customers who bank, save or have a mortgage with us. We challenge the financial sector status quo. We don’t see customers as the engine of our own profit. We share our profits with them and put their needs first. Always there when they need us. Supporting them and their lives.
If you’re inspired by fairer finances, passionate about making a meaningful impact, and truly care about our customers, you’re one of us.
At Nationwide, you are challenged to grow and rewarded for doing so. Valued. Recognised. Inspired to be your best. As a community, we want our working lives to count. As a team, we celebrate what we achieve. As a standard‑setter, we work for the good of customers, communities, and broader society.
We are purpose‑driven. Uncompromisingly customer. Unstoppably Nationwide.
Banking - but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society
In this role you will develop and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform and deliver data across the analytics team. This is a hands‑on opportunity to create clean, reliable and maintainable code following agreed engineering standards allowing you to build and support data tables, models and data products based on defined requirements.
Using engineering tools and platforms such as SQL, Python, Databricks and cloud technologies, you will develop, test, deploy and effectively manage change‑control processes, creating and maintaining appropriate technical documentation as you deliver. You will be responsible for Investigating and resolving data issues and pipeline failures, escalating more complex problems when required to agree resolution.
You will work collaboratively with engineers, analysts, product teams and business stakeholders to take ownership of well‑defined engineering tasks, delivering them to agreed quality and timelines. While delivering you will develop your knowledge of the business domain and underlying data, not just the technical solution becoming an SME and key data domain expert.
