Job summary

AerFin is recruiting an Engine Technician to join our Newport team. You will support maintenance of customer and in-house aircraft engines, modules and engine stands under the Engine MRO Operations Manager.

The role emphasizes safety, quality and reliability in a hands-on environment. Ideal candidates have a background in aviation maintenance, are familiar with OEM manuals and possess a technical qualification.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience maintaining large turbofan engines (CFM56-5B/7B, V2500, LEAP, GE90).
  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship or aviation maintenance qualification.
  • Experience interpreting OEM manuals and service bulletins.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engine maintenance tasks to regulatory standards.
  • Follow OEM manuals (EMM, AMM, IPC) and shop procedures.
  • Maintain safety, and handle waste oils and fuels per policy.
  • Liaise with Engine MRO Ops Manager on schedules and issues.
  • Work in a hands-on workshop with lifting and tooling.
  • Assist with module swaps, quick turns and lease transitions.

About The Role

We are looking for an Engine Technician. In this role, you will be integral to our maintenance operations, supporting both our in-house and customer-owned aircraft engines, modules, and engine transportation stands. Reporting to the Engine MRO Operations Manager, the role involves hands‑on maintenance activities and is essential to ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our aircraft engines.

What You'll Do
  • Perform maintenance tasks in accordance with regulatory standards and efficiently navigate OEM manuals such as Engine Maintenance Manual (EMM), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), Power Plant Basic Maintenance Manual (PPBUM), Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC) and Shop Procedures Manual (SPM)
  • Adhere to Part 145 regulatory requirements, along with MOE and FAA guidelines, to maintain quality standards in all maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure safe working practices in line with AerFin's Health and Safety policy, including correct handling and disposal of waste oils and fuels.
  • Conduct tool control processes, including pre‑use checks to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate regularly with the Engine MRO Operations Manager regarding production schedules and maintenance issues.
  • Participate in regular meetings with internal stakeholders to provide updates and support collaborative efforts.
  • Handle materials and components related to aviation maintenance, especially with CFM56-5B/7B engines, including quick turn, assembly, module swap, and lease transitions.
What You'll Bring
  • Hands‑on experience maintaining CFM56, V2500, LEAP and/or GE90 engines, including borescope inspections and blend repair activities.
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship, aviation maintenance qualification, or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Experience working within an aviation maintenance, MRO, or workshop environment.
  • The ability to interpret OEM manuals, service bulletins and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to quality, safety and compliance.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working in a hands‑on workshop environment, including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods while following health and safety procedures.
  • It would be beneficial if you have experience using Quantum or similar aviation MRO/ERP systems, additional engine type experience, and familiarity with EASA, UK CAA and FAA regulations.
