Job description

We’re more than just a water company. We're dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment, sustainability, and the communities we serve. By joining us, you’ll work with the latest technologies, driving forward-thinking projects that enhance and protect national infrastructure, making a real difference to the communities we serve.

With nearly 10,000 colleagues, we're looking for more brilliant people who are passionate about sustainability, eager to innovate, and ready to turn challenges into opportunities for a better future.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

We’re looking for an Energy Project Manager, to join our Tactical Asset Planning team. You’ll be based at our Severn Trent Centre site in Coventry or one of our operational sites, and you’ll join us 37 hours per week Monday – Friday.

The Energy Team is focused on reducing energy consumption and operating costs across our wastewater, clean water and property assets. By driving asset and process improvements and promoting energy best practice, the team plays a key role in delivering greater efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and supporting our Net Zero ambitions.

In this role you'll identify, assess and deliver projects that reduce energy consumption through improvements in asset performance and operational processes across the business. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, you'll help drive energy efficiency initiatives that deliver measurable reductions in operating costs and carbon emissions. Your work will contribute directly to achieving key business targets while ensuring energy best practice is embedded in the selection, operation and optimisation of both existing and new assets.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Identify, evaluate and deliver energy efficiency projects across wastewater, clean water and property assets, helping to reduce operational costs and carbon emissions.
  • Lead key energy optimisation programmes, driving improvements in asset performance and operational efficiency to achieve business and sustainability targets.
  • Develop business cases and investment proposals, identifying future opportunities to maximise energy and operational savings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders to successfully deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to agreed specifications.
  • Manage project governance, contracts and performance, ensuring benefits are realised, risks are controlled and company standards are met.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You’ll have experience delivering projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards, with a strong background in planning and managing M&E projects, contractor management and stakeholder engagement. A scientific or engineering qualification is essential, alongside operational knowledge of pumping stations and clean and wastewater treatment works, and an understanding of asset performance and operational efficiency.

You’ll bring knowledge of energy management, renewable energy technologies and energy markets, supported by strong commercial awareness and numerical skills. You’ll be an effective communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders, make evidence-based decisions, solve complex problems and manage priorities effectively. A commitment to health and safety and confidence using Microsoft Office and other IT systems are also essential.

An interest in energy-conscious organisations and behavioural change initiatives (e.g. ENCO) is desirable. Previous experience in this area would be beneficial.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.
