Job summary

British Steel invites applications for an Energy Operations Trainee Operator in Scunthorpe. You will join a multi-skilled team supporting safe, reliable operation of the energy plant, learning to monitor performance, respond to changing conditions and contribute to production targets.

Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you’ll gain exposure to plant inspections, control room operations and routine checks, while developing through structured training and ongoing support from experienced

Qualifications

• Experience in continuous process, engineering, manufacturing, utilities, production or operational environments.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-critical operation.
• Willingness to learn and develop in energy operations role.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant performance and operating conditions via SCADA, DCS and control systems.
• Carry out routine inspections, plant checks, testing and sampling.
• Support safe start-ups, shutdowns and isolations of plant equipment.
• Participate in fault finding, root cause analysis and problem-solving activities.
• Contribute to safety audits, risk assessments and continuous improvement.
• Report incidents, hazards and near misses to promote safety culture.
• Ensure environmental standards through monitoring and emissions assessments.
• Collaborate with Engineering during maintenance/outages.
• Support achievement of KPIs and performance targets.
