Job summary

Shell Energy Europe & Environmental Products is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Market Analysis team to develop and productionise time series forecasting and optimization models for power, gas and weather data. You will translate market fundamentals into mathematical models and deploy them in Azure/AWS, closely collaborating with domain experts and traders.

Qualifications

• Graduate qualification in analytical or science-based discipline (engineering/maths/CS); PhD in ML/optimisation ideal.
• End-to-end data experience: querying, aggregation, analysis, visualization.
• Strong Python for data analysis (Pandas/NumPy/ SciPy/Scikit-learn) and SQL for data retrieval.
• Familiarity with cloud architectures and deploying apps in cloud environments.
• Self-starter, commercially aware, able to work with minimal supervision.
• Good communication to present developments to traders and team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, clean and visualize power, gas and weather data for forecasting.
• Develop forecasts for demand, wind, solar and prices.
• Statistically evaluate and validate forecasts.
• Build production-ready model deployment framework for trading decisions.
• Collaborate with IT and modelling teams to scale computations.
• Develop in-house optimisation models (stack/dispatch).
• Lead projects on models and infrastructure with cross-functional teams.
