Qualifications

WFH policy: Employees are required to attend the office 2 days/week - one of those days will be Tuesday, which is when the whole team coordinates to come in together

Role Summary:

The Energy Analyst is primarily responsible for the planning, development and operation of LCCC’s scheme forecasting models. The team works collaboratively with specialist teams such as quantitative development and data engineering to deliver key forecasting outputs and recommendations.

In addition to scheme forecasting, the team directly supports other internal teams with analytical deep-dives and modelling required throughout the year, producing data insights that help the business make informed choices using the best available data and ultimately impact scheme delivery and government policy.

The ideal candidate for the Energy Analyst role will have an understanding of energy market fundamentals or be able to demonstrate the ability and willingness to quickly develop expert knowledge in a new domain. They will be driven by curiosity and seek to continuously improve themselves by enjoy developing new skills and approaches to solve problems. They will also able to demonstrate a high level of analytical competence.

They will be required to take on complex challenges with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm, developing and communicating data insights in a clear and succinct way. Furthermore, the candidate will be adaptable and inquisitive, with a strong willingness to develop and improve existing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Become the analytical key point of contact for an LCCC scheme. This involves:
    • Owning the relationship with other internal teams
    • Running the forecasting operations for the scheme
    • Chairing meetings with senior stakeholders such as the CFO to achieve sign-off on key deliverables and recommendations
    • Communicating key findings and recommendations
  • Perform regular forecasting for an LCCC scheme
  • Maintain and develop forecasting models
  • Seek to automate processes where appropriate
  • Investigate and report on variances between forecast and out-turns
  • Continuously improve the forecasting tools and processes, based on troubleshooting, lessons learned, energy market development, and policy changes
  • Provide general modelling and analysis to impact the wider business
  • Review and collate industry-wide data sources and policy development news
  • Assist with reporting and interpreting KPIs and other performance metrics

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
  • A good first degree or higher degree in a highly numerate subject or equivalent experience is essential. Examples include (but are not limited to): Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research and other quantitative STEM subjects.
  • Experience using Python or R to conduct analysis
  • A strong familiarity with Excel
  • Proven experience with forecasting or predictive analysis
  • Experience with data visualisation
  • Experience with writing, developing, testing, quality assuring and maintaining models
  • Experience with version control software such as Git
  • Experience with writing documentation and tutorials
  • Experience presenting and giving teach-ins on analytical work
  • Highly analytical and strong critical thinker
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in person and through written output
  • An interest in the energy sector and a passion for renewable energy technology, improving energy security and helping the government achieve Net Zero
  • An inquisitive mindset and a passion for continuously developing themselves

Desirable:
  • Experience with PowerBI or equivalent
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience in the energy sector
