Job summary

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a capable Decontamination Technician to oversee the day-to-day delivery of Endoscopes, Cystoscopes and Ureteroscopes to procedure rooms in line with HTM 01-06, ensuring high-quality, timely service.

You will operate automated endoscope washers, manage stock rotation, input production data and work across sites as needed, maintaining professional standards and supporting safe, efficient department operations.

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, dismantle, clean, disinfect and distribute medical devices, checking quality at each stage.
• Handle Endoscopes/Cystoscopes/Ureteroscopes within the department using aseptic technique.
• Operate automated endoscope washers & dryers and any other machinery.
• Ensure stock rotation and that out-of-date stock is not used.
• Assist in periodic stock checks within the directorate.
• Ensure work complies with departmental procedures and Health & Safety legislation; report faults to supervisor/manager.
• Keep the work area clean and tidy; complete paperwork neatly.
• Input production data and use department computer systems including endoscope tracking system.
• Deal with customers professionally and maintain the department's image.
• Participate in training, development and appraisal activities.
• Adhere to BS.EN.ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System and HTM 0106 guidelines.

Job description

The post holder will assume responsibility for the day to day delivery of Endoscopes/Cystoscopes/ureteroscopes in a timely fashion to the procedure rooms complying with the current guidelines.

The main elements of the role will be to ensure that Decontamination services are delivered to the required standards as set out in HTM 01-06. The post requires good communication skills and the ability to multitask to deliver the service that is required. The post holder will also be required to carry out non-decontamination general duties within the Department on a rotational basis.

• To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with departmental procedures and Health & Safety legislation and ensuring that any faults or defects are reported immediately to a Supervisor or Manager.
• To ensure the work area is kept clean, tidy and free from obstruction.
• To complete all paperwork neatly and legibly.
• To input production data and use the departmental computer systems, including the endoscope tracking system.
• Ensure that all customers are dealt with in a professional and helpful manner.
• Maintain and develop the department's image and reputation.
• To participate in training, development and appraisal activities.
• To adhere to Quality Management System accredited to BS.EN.ISO 9001:2000.
• To work in accordance with HTM 0106 guidelines for decontamination of flexible endoscopes.
• To work flexibly in response to changes in and the development of services.
• To promote a safe working environment.
• To work at any of the Trust's or customer's sites.
• To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade.
