Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Decontamination Supervisor to support the Endoscope Decontamination Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester. You will work to safely manage daily operations and ensure high standards of patient care.

You will lead a small team, coordinate seven‑day service staffing, contribute to recruitment and training, and maintain KPI data while adhering to infection prevention policies and governance requirements.

Qualifications

• Decontamination qualification or equivalent endoscope decontamination experience in a junior supervisory role.
• Experience and knowledge of decontamination processes and Quality Assurance systems.
• Ability to effectively train others in decontamination processing and standard operating procedures.
• Knowledge of current legislation, policies and guidelines related to decontamination of medical devices.

• Able to work unsupervised in all areas of the speciality.
• To assist with planning and prioritise the workflow of the department ensuring the optimal usage of staff and equipment.

• To ensure the routine maintenance/operation of all equipment within speciality is undertaken.
• To assist with developing and review Standard Operating Procedures for the department including new equipment/ processes.
• To monitor stocks of consumables and chemicals and authorise their replenishment.

Job overview

· To provide day to day support of operational management of the service delivery under the guidance of the Decontamination Manager.

· To support the provision of the specialised decontamination service, contributing to the clinical care of the patient.

· To apply professional judgement and utilise specialist skills and detailed scientific knowledge when reviewing and interpreting scientific technical data and production reports to ensure a safe service is provided.

· To deputise for the Decontamination Manager when necessary.

· To record and manage staff absence/annual leave

· To assist and support with the decontamination duty rotas, ensuring adequate staffing provision on a day-to-day basis as part of the seven-day service.

· Assist and support in line managing Supervisors and support them in the supervision of the decontamination technicians.

· Support the Decontamination Manager in the following: recruitment, induction, appraisal, training and development

· To work as part of a team of decontamination personnel.

· To assist in collating endoscope activity/repair data / KPI’s.

· To attend all relevant meetings .

· To manage and train a team of staff as necessary including ongoing training updates and competency assessments of junior staff.

· To have a full range of IT skills (inc Microsoft Office) to meet the needs of the department and to collate/ present technical data for discussion.

· To comply with infection prevention and control policies, wear appropriate PPE.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
