Job summary

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for an Endoscope Reprocessing Unit (ERU) technician to support the decontamination of flexible endoscopes across Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and Leigh Infirmary. The role involves working 30 hours per week on a 8am–6pm roster, across two sites, with a focus on quality and patient safety.

You will participate in receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly and reprocessing, following SOPs and JAG standards, with

  • Carry out receipt, disassembly, manual cleaning, reassembly and reprocessing of reusable flexible endoscopes.
  • Work in accordance with ERU Policy, SOPs and JAG standards.
  • Plan your own workload with limited supervision.
  • Maintain daily documentation of work production.
  • Operate decontamination equipment and perform routine tests daily/weekly.
  • Support Endoscopy Units, Operating Theatres and Wards across both sites.

This position will cover both sites (Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and Leigh Infirmary).

We have 1 vacancy working 30 hours per week working between 8am - 6pm Monday to Friday across both sites (roster in place)

The technician will be expected to undergo all aspects of the training provided, which is geared to equip them with the technical knowledge, skills and understanding to carry out the wide range of tasks within the ERU, which requires a high degree of numeracy, record keeping ability and attention to detail.

  • To work in accordance with ERU Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System to meet JAG (external) accreditation.
  • To reprocess reusable flexible endoscopes, manually wash, disinfect, reprocess, check, dispatch to user and track in a controlled environment.
  • Under limited supervision by the Team Leader meet the demands of the Departments workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards which will be measured by in-process checks.
  • To operate decontamination equipment and carry out routine tests daily/weekly, in accordance with the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules, National Quality Standards and Guidance.
  • To undertake duties consistent with the responsibility of the grade and needs of the service.
  • The daily documentation of work production.
  • To maintain the cleanliness of work areas sinks trolleys and other equipment, in line with the unit’s standard operating procedures.
