Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a decontamination technician to manage the full duties in the decontamination area for flexible endoscopes. The role involves working across MPH and Bridgwater Community Hospital, with exposure to blood and body fluids, ensuring high standards and compliance with policies.

You will operate decontamination equipment, perform routine tests, and participate in mandatory training to support patient safety and service delivery.

  • Refer issues and raise uncertainties with senior staff.
  • Attend statutory and mandatory training and inductions as required.

Job description

To train in the full duties of a decontamination technician in this specialist area responsible for all flexible endoscopes, in accordance with the Trust and National decontamination policies. To work flexibly at MPH and Bridgwater Community Hospital. The role involves exposure to blood and body fluids.

  • Meet the demands of the department's workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards which will be measured by in-process checks and nonconformance reports.
  • To use manual dexterity and concentration for the disassembly and reassembly of the reusable medical devices in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
  • To operate decontamination equipment and carry out routine tests in accordance with the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedule, Quality Standards and Guidance.
  • To undertake duties as required, consistent with the responsibility of the grade and needs of the service.
  • To refer appropriate issues and raise uncertainties with senior staff.
  • To attend all statutory and mandatory training and Induction as defined by the organisation and service needs and other courses considered appropriate.
