Overview of the independent end-point assessor role:
The Government requires all apprenticeships to include an end-point assessment (EPA), which holistically assesses the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) learned throughout the apprenticeship. This ensures apprentices meet employer standards and are fully competent in their occupation. Pearson provides employers with confidence that completing an apprenticeship signifies being job-ready and that assessments are consistent across all apprenticeships.
An independent EPA means assessors have no conflict of interest and are independent of the training provider. They assess the apprentice's competency without prior involvement in their training or assessment. EPA activities are conducted onsite on dates agreed with employers or providers, with outcomes recorded and justified. Pearson quality assurance oversees the process.
IEAs are qualified assessors, trained and approved to operate as IEAs, conducting assessments according to the apprenticeship plan and Pearson materials. See the Key Accountabilities and Person Specification sections below for details.
