Job summary

We are seeking a caring, motivated SEN Support Assistant to join Portland School, part of The Shaw Education Trust, at the Blythe Bridge site. You will support pupils with SEMH, SEND, autism and ADHD, helping them access learning and develop confidence across social, emotional, and academic domains.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, promoting positive behaviour, and coordinating with staff and families to monitor progress.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD, or behavioural needs.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient with good communication and relationship-building skills.
• Able to stay calm and adaptable in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Support students in lessons, interventions, and structured activities.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual needs.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
• Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
• Support students with social skills, communication and independence.
• Assist teachers with classroom preparation and learning resources.
• Monitor and record student progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Collaborate with staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.
