Job summary

Essex County Council is hiring a Social Worker for the North Essex Neighbourhood team in Colchester. You will undertake Care Act‑compliant assessments, reviews and support planning for adults with diverse needs, while promoting independence and wellbeing.

Applicants should be registered Social Workers with Social Work England and have a strong grasp of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding. A driving licence is essential for travelling across Essex.

Qualifications

• Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
• Experience in a local authority adult social care team with a varied caseload.
• Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding practice.
• Demonstrates assessment, risk management, decision‑making and professional analysis skills.
• Autonomous in case work planning and diary management to maintain standards.
• Contributes to team learning and CPD through sharing insights and articles.
• Experience chairing meetings and developing partnerships with local agencies.

Responsibilities

• Undertake Care Act‑compliant assessments, reviews, and support planning.
• Work with adults with diverse needs and safeguarding concerns.
• Apply strengths‑based, person‑centred approaches to promote independence and wellbeing.
• Participate in safeguarding enquiries in line with the Care Act 42.
• Collaborate with health colleagues and voluntary sector partners.
• Manage a varied caseload while upholding professional standards.
