Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Council seeks an Employment Specialist to deliver intensive, personalised, employment-focused support across Barry and the Vale. You will manage caseloads, provide 1-1 mentoring, and help participants access sustainable job opportunities through collaboration with employers and partners.

The role requires safeguarding awareness, data accuracy, and commitment to programme targets, with 37 hours per week and Grade 6 SCP 14‑19. DBS enhanced, and travel within the Vale expected.

Qualifications

• Experience providing intensive, employment-focused mentoring.
• Experience working with diverse and complex client groups.
• Track record of achieving outcomes in employability, wellbeing or support environments.
• Experience working in multi-agency settings and engaging hard-to-reach participants.
• Strong organisational, communication, and independent working skills.
• Up-to-date understanding of employment, benefits and welfare reform in Wales.
• Strong ICT skills and ability to maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload, delivering 1‑1 mentoring, action planning and job‑seeking support.
• Help participants overcome complex challenges through problem‑solving and strengths‑based approaches.
• Work proactively with employers, service providers and multidisciplinary partners to create sustainable employment pathways.
• Support participants in work, including follow‑up and job‑sustainability support.
• Record data accurately and maintain GDPR, safeguarding and performance monitoring requirements.
• Contribute to programme targets and continuous improvement.
• Deliver an accessible, flexible service — sometimes including outreach work.
