Job description

NQ Solicitor | Employment | Leeds | Rare opportunity

NQ Employment opportunities don’t come around particularly often, so this is one worth a look if you’re qualifying into employment law and want to get your career moving in the right direction.

I’m working with a highly regarded Leeds firm that is looking to add an NQ Employment Solicitor to its established team.

The firm has a strong client base ranging from growing businesses and SMEs through to major national and international organisations, so there is plenty of variety in the work.

The role

You’ll be joining an experienced employment team and, importantly for an NQ, you won’t simply be sitting on the sidelines.

You’ll work closely with experienced lawyers, assisting on a broad range of employment matters while also taking responsibility for your own caseload as you develop.

The work is likely to include:

  • Day-to-day employment and HR advisory work
  • Disciplinary and grievance matters
  • Sickness absence and performance issues
  • Drafting and advising on employment documentation
  • Restructuring and redundancy exercises
  • Discrimination and whistleblowing matters
  • TUPE and outsourcing
  • Restrictive covenant and confidentiality issues
  • Senior executive and director exits
  • Other contentious and non-contentious employment matters

You’ll have access to experienced colleagues around you, but the intention is very much to give you genuine responsibility and help you build your own experience rather than keeping you purely in an assisting role.

What are they looking for?

Ideally, you’ll be qualifying as an NQ Solicitor into employment law, or be an NQ who has recently qualified and is looking for the right first move.

You’ll need a genuine interest in employment law, good academics and, importantly, the confidence and personality to deal with clients and colleagues at all levels.

You don’t need to have everything figured out at NQ – the team is looking for someone with the right attitude who wants to learn, get involved and build a long-term career in employment.

The firm

The firm is well established and highly regarded in the region, with a strong reputation for the quality of its work and its client base.

I’ve deliberately kept the name out of the advert, but I’m happy to give you the full details if you’d like to have a confidential conversation.

The key point?

There aren’t many NQ Employment roles around at the moment, particularly with the opportunity to work on a genuinely broad range of matters alongside experienced lawyers.

If you’re qualifying into employment law and are considering your options, it’s certainly worth a conversation.
