Job summary

Simpson Judge, in partnership with a leading national law firm, is seeking an Employment Associate (1+ PQE) to join its Birmingham team. You will work within a busy employment practice advising on contentious and non-contentious matters, manage Tribunal claims, draft contracts and policies, and develop strong client relationships.

The role offers significant responsibility with supportive supervision, excellent training, and clear opportunities for progression within a national platform.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year PQE in employment law.
• Experience handling a mix of contentious and non-contentious matters.
• Strong technical ability and attention to detail.
• Commercial, pragmatic client service mindset.

• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Long-term career interest in a leading national practice.

Responsibilities

• Advise employers on day-to-day employment law and HR issues.
• Manage Employment Tribunal claims from instruction to hearing.
• Draft and review employment contracts, policies, settlement agreements and other employment documents.
• Advise on disciplinaries, grievances, dismissals, discrimination, whistleblowing and redundancy processes.
• Support clients on employment aspects of corporate transactions and restructurings.
• Work closely with senior lawyers and clients on complex, commercially sensitive matters.
• Develop client relationships and contribute to growth of the Birmingham practice.

The Role

• Advising on disciplinaries, grievances, dismissals, discrimination, whistleblowing and redundancy processes.
• Supporting clients on the employment aspects of corporate transactions and restructurings.
• Working closely with senior lawyers and clients on complex and commercially sensitive matters.
• Developing strong client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the Birmingham practice.

The role will offer a significant level of responsibility, while providing the support and supervision needed to continue developing your technical and commercial skills.
