Job summary

VG CHARLES & CO is seeking an established Employment Partner to join its Leeds team. The role focuses on advising employers, executives, and business owners on complex employment issues, with a strong emphasis on strategy, client relationships and practice growth.

You will work with an established client base, contribute to the team’s future direction, and mentor junior members while expanding the employment offering in Leeds.

Qualifications

• Significant experience across a broad range of employment law matters, including contentious and non-contentious work.
• Strong leadership and ability to develop junior team members.
• Established network of client relationships and ability to generate new business.

Responsibilities

• Advising employers on complex contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including tribunal litigation, discrimination, whistleblowing and unfair dismissal.
• Providing strategic advice on senior executive exits, settlement agreements, restrictive covenants and contractual disputes.
• Advising businesses on workforce restructuring, redundancy programmes, TUPE transfers and organisational change.
• Supporting clients through employment tribunal proceedings, including case strategy, preparation and settlement negotiations.
• Advising on employment aspects of corporate transactions, business acquisitions and disposals.
• Building trusted relationships with HR directors, business owners, in-house legal teams and senior management.
• Identifying opportunities to develop existing accounts and generate new instructions across the wider client base.
• Contributing to the development of the employment team through supervision, mentoring and knowledge sharing.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an established Employment Partner to join a highly regarded national law firm in Leeds.

The firm is looking to strengthen its employment offering with the appointment of a senior lawyer who can bring a strong technical background, an established client following and the ability to contribute to the continued growth of the practice.

You will advise a broad range of employers, senior executives and business owners on complex employment law issues, providing commercially focused advice that takes account of both the legal and wider business implications. The role offers the opportunity to work with an established client base, develop new relationships and play an influential part in the future direction of the team.

The Position

You should be able to demonstrate:

• Significant experience across a broad range of employment law matters, covering both contentious and non-contentious work.


• The ability to advise on complex and sensitive employment issues, often involving senior stakeholders and significant commercial considerations.


• A strong understanding of the employment issues affecting businesses and their management teams.


• An established network of client relationships and a demonstrable ability to generate new business.


• A proactive approach to practice development, with the ambition to build upon an existing platform.


• Strong leadership skills and the ability to support and develop junior members of the team.
