Job description

Employee Relations Specialist (Fixed Term Contract), Reading

This role involves providing professional, commercial, and specialist employee relations advice and coaching to managers and stakeholders across the broader People team and business, to achieve business objectives and operational outcomes.

The SME ensures alignment of employee experiences with business strategy, policies, compliance, and legislative requirements, requiring knowledge of Three’s broader People Policies and processes.

The ER Specialist manages complex and high-risk cases such as disciplinary, grievance, whistleblowing, sickness absence, capability, performance, appeals, early conciliation, and Employment Tribunal claims. The role also involves delivering consultations for business change projects, including restructures, redundancies, TUPE, and changing terms and conditions. Additionally, it manages ER projects, policy updates, and initiatives for continuous improvement.

What you will be doing in the role
  • Manage highly complex and high-risk cases including disciplinary, grievance, sickness, capability, appeals, whistleblowing, early conciliation, settlement agreements/COT3, and Employment Tribunals.
  • Assess risks related to ER issues and projects, providing viable options for consideration, and develop training to meet identified needs.
  • Deliver consultations for business change projects, including redundancies, TUPE, and changes to terms and conditions.
  • Utilize ER data, including Excel data manipulation, to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for proactive intervention.
  • Identify shortcomings in existing processes and collaborate with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage relationships with key internal customers, acting as their business partner, often supported by teams to ensure satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • Experience in Employee Relations, managing complex and high-risk cases.
  • Experience in managing consultation requirements for business change projects.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and manage risks using excellent communication skills and technical guidance.
