Job description

The Employee Relations Lead will play a crucial role in fostering a positive work environment within our unionised manufacturing facility. This position involves managing employee relations, addressing grievances, and ensuring compliance with UK labour laws and union agreements. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of UK labour relations, and the ability to navigate complex workplace dynamics.

The role will also focus on driving attendance, ensuring managers and HR Advisors are equipped to handle absences for all reasons, and implementing strategies to improve sickness absence metrics.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Management: Leading a team of HR Advisors, providing mentoring and coaching as needed.
  2. Employee Relations: Serving as the primary contact for employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, grievances, and disciplinary actions.
  3. Union Liaison: Collaborating with union representatives to maintain positive relationships and address employee relation concerns related to unions.
  4. Policy Implementation: Ensuring consistent application of company policies and adherence to UK labour laws and union agreements.
  5. Training and Development: Conducting training for managers and employees on labour relations, conflict resolution, and policies.
  6. Investigations: Leading investigations into employee complaints and workplace incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and fair resolutions.
  7. Reporting: Preparing reports on employee relations activities, trends, and outcomes for senior management.
Qualifications
  • Education: Ideally CIPD Level 5 or above.
  • Experience: Proven experience in employee relations within a unionised manufacturing environment, with leadership or management experience.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, mediation, conflict resolution, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of UK labour laws, union agreements, and best practices in employee relations.
  • Knowledge of HR principles and practices.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems like Workday and PeopleSoft.
  • Experience with ATS platforms such as Taleo.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and social media management.
  • Administrative experience in fast-paced settings.
