Job summary

AWD online is seeking an Employability Tutor to design, plan and deliver engaging programmes for young people, progressing them through employability skills and accredited qualifications.

Delivery includes Functional Skills and GCSE English and Maths for post-16 learners, with opportunities for remote admin days and smaller class sizes to personalise support.

The role requires safeguarding commitment and experience in FE settings with strong behaviour management and digital skills.

Qualifications

  • Qualified with PGCE/Cert Ed or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant vocational subject.
  • Experience delivering learning to young people in FE/post-16.
  • Experience teaching English and Maths up to Level 2 or GCSE.
  • Experience supporting learners with behaviour management needs.
  • Ability to plan and deliver programmes meeting individual learner needs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging employability and skills-based teaching to post-16 learners.
  • Teach Entry Level to Level 2, including Functional Skills and GCSE English/Maths.
  • Plan and deliver structured schemes of work and lesson plans.
  • Monitor learner progress and set targets using assessment data.
  • Organise and support assessments, coursework and examinations.
  • Provide tutorial and pastoral support to promote wellbeing.
  • Maintain positive behaviour and adapt teaching to learner needs.
  • Keep accurate learner records using ICT and tracking systems.
  • Build links with apprenticeship tutors and external organisations.
  • Contribute to course reviews and quality assurance.

SALARY: £27,000 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Doncaster, South Yorkshire

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 40 Hours per Week

Job Overview

We have a great opportunity for an Employability Tutor to design, plan and deliver inspirational programmes of learning that engage and motivate young people to progress and achieve.

Working with learners from initial assessment through to successful completion, as the Employability Tutor you will deliver practical learning that develops employability, social skills, confidence and accredited qualifications. Delivery will include Entry Level to Level 2 programmes, including Functional Skills and GCSE English and Maths.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about creating opportunities through education and supporting young people to build brighter futures through high-quality vocational learning.

Duties
  • Teaching Delivery: Deliver engaging employability and skills-based teaching to post-16 learners
  • Functional Skills: Teach Entry Level to Level 2 programmes, including Functional Skills and GCSE English and Maths
  • Lesson Planning: Plan and deliver structured schemes of work, lesson plans and individual learning support plans
  • Learner Progress: Monitor learner progress, use assessment data and set individual learning targets
  • Assessment Support: Organise and support assessments, coursework, examinations and learner accreditation
  • Pastoral Support: Provide tutorial and pastoral support that promotes learner wellbeing, confidence and achievement
  • Classroom Management: Maintain positive behaviour standards and adapt teaching to meet varied learner needs
  • Records and Compliance: Maintain accurate learner records using ICT, tracking systems and required administration processes
  • Curriculum Links: Build effective links with apprenticeship tutors and external organisations to support progression
  • Quality Improvement: Contribute to course reviews, curriculum development, standardisation and quality assurance activity
Candidate Requirements
Essential
  • PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant vocational specialist subject
  • Experience of delivering learning to young people within a Further Education, post-16 or similar learning environment
  • Experience of teaching English and Maths up to Level 2 and/or GCSE
  • Experience of supporting learners with varying behaviour management needs and barriers to learning
  • Ability to plan and deliver programmes that meet individual learner needs within a group setting
  • Experience of embedding employability, social skills, English, Maths, equality and diversity into teaching and assessment
  • Strong classroom management, communication, organisation and digital skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding, learner wellbeing and high‑quality education
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching young people aged 14–16 and 16–19
  • Experience of designing, planning, tracking and monitoring teaching, learning and assessment in line with Ofsted standards
