Job summary

The City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking Travel Assistants (Children's) to escort pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities to and from school. This is a part-time, permanent role offered during term time only.

You will work in shifts starting at 7:30am and 9:30am and finishing between 2:30pm and 4:30pm, during school terms. A caring, flexible approach and safeguarding focus are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Reading and writing skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Empathy and the ability to respond sensitively to individuals in need or distress.
• Paediatric First Aid training (facilitated by the organisation, if successful).
• Experience of working with children and SEND is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Securing welfare, discipline and appropriate behaviour of children during the journey to and from school.
• Duties may include lifting immobile and disabled children and securing wheelchairs in vehicles.
• Carrying sums of money on behalf of parents to school staff.
• Carrying medication for pupils on the journey and handing it to school staff.
• Liaising with vehicle drivers regarding daily journey arrangements.
