Job summary

National Gas is seeking a dedicated professional to lead and enhance emergency preparedness, business continuity and resilience initiatives across Britain’s gas network. The role focuses on planning, training, exercises and coordinating with emergency services and local authorities to bolster readiness and protect people, assets and operations.

Responsibilities

• Review and maintain operational, tactical and business continuity plans and procedures.
• Support the completion of BIAs and the maintenance of business continuity plans across business areas.
• Assist with the management of emergency preparedness, business continuity and resilience arrangements for future energy transition activities.
• Promote awareness of emergency preparedness and business continuity requirements across the organisation.
• Support the design, development and delivery of emergency response and business continuity exercises.
• Evaluate exercise outcomes and monitor progress of improvement actions.
• Maintain records of exercises, training activities and readiness assessments.
• Work collaboratively with internal departments to maintain emergency response readiness and business continuity capability.
• Liaise with emergency services, local authorities and resilience partners to support emergency planning and preparedness activities.
• Represent the organisation at industry forums and networks.
• Provide emergency management support during live incidents.
• Provide information to assist operational decision-making during incidents.
• Support the coordination of business recovery after incidents.
• Monitor developments in best practice.

About The Role

Support the delivery and continuous improvement of the organisation’s emergency preparedness, business continuity and resilience programmes by maintaining plans and procedures, coordinating exercises and training, supporting incident response and recovery activities, and collaborating with internal stakeholders, emergency services, local authorities and other resilience partners to enhance organisational readiness.

The role contributes to the identification of risks, lessons learned and improvement opportunities, helping to ensure the organisation can effectively prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and business disruptions while safeguarding people, assets, operations and reputation.

What You'll Do

• Review and maintain operational, tactical and business continuity plans and procedures.
• Support the completion of Business Impact Assessments (BIAs) and the maintenance of business continuity plans across business areas.
• Assist with the management of emergency preparedness, business continuity and resilience arrangements for future energy transition activities, including hydrogen and carbon capture.
• Promote awareness of emergency preparedness and business continuity requirements across the organisation.
• Support the design, development and delivery of emergency response and business continuity exercises, against regulatory requirements and recognised good practice.
• Evaluate exercise outcomes and monitor progress of improvement actions and support their implementation within business areas.
• Maintain records of exercises, training activities and readiness assessments.
• Work collaboratively with internal departments to maintain emergency response readiness and business continuity capability.
• Liaise with emergency services, local authorities and resilience partners to support emergency planning and preparedness activities.
• Represent the organisation, as required, at industry forums, resilience groups and professional networks.
• Provide emergency management support and guidance to the Tactical Incident Commander and wider response team during live incidents.
• Provide advice and information to assist operational decision-making during incidents.
• Support the coordination of business recovery activities following incidents or disruptions.
• Monitor developments in emergency management, business continuity and resilience good practice.
• Support the identification and assessment of emerging risks that may affect organisational resilience.
• Contribute to the review and continuous improvement of emergency management and business continuity arrangements.

About You

This role requires a collaborative and proactive approach, working within established governance frameworks to provide specialist advice on emergency preparedness, response and recovery. Building strong relationships across National Gas Transmission and with external organisations, including Local Authorities, Emergency Services and resilience partners, you will help ensure emergency arrangements remain effective and fit for purpose.

Acting as a subject matter expert, you'll identify emerging risks, analyse complex information and support the development of practical resilience strategies, exercises and improvement initiatives. Using professional judgement, technical expertise and stakeholder influence, you'll help strengthen organisational resilience and support effective decision-making before, during and after emergency events.

• Experience working within the Blue Light Services (Police, Fire & Rescue, Ambulance, or related emergency response organisations), with an understanding of multi-agency incident management, emergency response procedures and resilience planning.
